The Venetia Williams-Charlie Deutsch team has been red hot of late and they can have another winner in the Virgin Bet Handicap Chase (16:05) at Sandown on Thursday, in the shape of Laskalin.

It's fair to say that, after just four runs for Venetia since coming over from France, the trainer is probably still finding out about the seven-year-old.

He has time on his side and has already shown a couple of useful pieces of form for the trainer, one of them here in a Listed 2m3f handicap chase last October.

He bettered that on his penultimate run at Exeter (3m, heavy) but then last time in the Surrey National, he got stuck in a Lingfield bog and his stamina didn't hold out.

He's been dropped 1lb, which won't harm, and I think back over this trip and on slightly less testing ground, he can come good.

So it's Laskalin, in Wetherby's 16:05 on Thursday.
