Beverley is a great case in point for those who advocate visiting a racecourse before you place a bet there. I remember watching on TV and thinking there was a bit of an incline but you don't appreciate how stiff this 5f is until you actually get to the Westwood.
They climb all the way from start to finish. In the old days those drawn low often had the advantage. These days, with the change in the draw a few years back, it's now those drawn high.
However, it is less biased in a smaller field and the 10 runners that take part in the Annie Oxtoby Memorial Handicap (15:10) at Beverley should all get a reasonable crack at winning the race.
I'm with Terentum Star (drawn in stall six) to come back to form and win this race for a second year in succession.
He hasn't been in great form for some time but that was the case before he won this 12-months ago. In fact, he is 8lb lower this time and on that basis he looks to have a very good chance.
Like many sprinters, consistency is not his strong point but his two runs so far this term should have put him spot on for this and I think we will see a much better effort. So, it's Terentum Star to win the 15:10 at Beverley on Tuesday May 10.
