13.30 Kempton - Mellow Ben

Likely favourite Certainly Red must go close with a clear round, but he made novicey mistakes on his chase debut two starts back and a momentum-stopping error cost him his chance at Kempton last time.
Chris Gordon's Mellow Ben is a more assured jumpier and has become dangerously handicapped on his winning form in 2019, with his current mark of 115 being 26lb lower than his peak rating.
A solid third over track and trip back in February, he had plenty of use made of him - arguably too much - when disappointing on his most recent start at Plumpton, where the soft conditions were also against him.
He needs proper good ground like today's to be at his most effective and with his stable in flying form (5-17 in the last fortnight), he has to be bang there at the finish.

13.50 Uttoxeter - No Word Of A Lie

Plenty of these can be fancied for this 3m handicap hurdle but the booking of Aidan Coleman for Olivier Signy's No Word Of A Lie catches the eye, as does the the six-year-old's progressive profile.
After beating decent yardstick Mister Whitaker easily in a Sedgefield novice over 2m4f - the third has won twice since to frank the form - he has twice finished runner-up over similar trips, including when making his handicap debut here two starts back.
He bumped into a progressive rival in Findthetime, who was landing a hat-trick, on his most recent outing and the way he was keeping on at the finish suggests he'll relish today's extra half mile.
Being closely related to high-class 3m hurdle / chase winner Lieutenant Colonel, his breeding is also encouraging in the respect.
The recent form of his small stable - Signy's last three runners have finished 132 - clinches the bet at decent odds.

14.05 Kempton - Rockstar Ronnie

The forecast good ground lessens the chances of Golden Boy Grey, who has won two of his last three races on soft and was found out by a quicker surface when beaten at odds-on in between.
On the other hand, Dan Skelton's Rockstar Ronnie loves good ground, which explains why he hasn't been seen out since making it 2-3 over fences (2-2 at this track) in a race here in November, when again impressing with his jumping.
He was fortunate to collect on that occasion, admittedly, as the re-opposing Sebastopol was clear when falling heavily at the last, but that horse is worse off at today's weights and has been absent since stopping quickly and being pulled up on King George Day.
The selection is also open to further improvement and shouldn't lack for fitness in a race that he may well have been targeted at, so he's a rock-solid favourite.

14.25 Uttoxeter - Midnight River

Fuji Flight is sure to be popular on his hat-trick bid in this 3m handicap chase but both his wins have come on soft, which suits his short, choppy stride, according to his trainer Venetia Williams, and he wouldn't the ground to dry out too much.
The weather forecast is not encouraging in that respect and it could be worth forgiving Dan Skelton's Midnight River a pulled-up effort on very testing ground at Exeter last month.
He's best judged on a game defeat of useful novice Pay The Piper on his previous start at Wetherby, where he showed a terrific effort to regain the lead on the run-in after being briefly headed, and there's surely a decent handicap like today's in him off his current mark.
While he does have to prove he stays this far, his running style suggests he will and Skelton but has always seen him as a three-mile chaser.

14.40 Kempton - Annsam each-way

Evan Williams enjoyed Cheltenham Festival success with Coole Cody and his Annsam could be the answer to what is a fiendishly competitive 2m5f handicap hurdle at a double-figure price.
The seven-year-old jumped poorly when pulling up in a red-hot handicap chase (the old racing Post Chase) on his most recent outing, which was disappointing as he had shown much improved form when winning over fences at Ascot previously.

He'll be worth another chance over the bigger obstacles but he wasn't a bad hurdler by any means, winning three times, including a comfortable success over the smart Minella Trump, and was a solid third at Newbury in November when last seen out in this sphere.

His hurdles rating of 129 is 10lb lower than his chase and he can certainly win a decent prize off that under Adam Wedge, who has been on board for all five of his wins under Rules.

15.00 Uttoxeter - Llandinabo Lad each-way

Beauport, the winner of Sandown's EBF Final last season, has only found one too good for him on all three of his starts this term, but a further 6lb rise leaves him on a career-high mark and lumbered with joint top weight.

He's still one of the most likely winners but has been well found in the market and preference at an each-way price is for Tom Symonds' Llandinabo Lad.

He can easily be excused a distant fourth behind the likes of Goshen and Adagio in last month's Kingwell Hurdle when last seen out, and can be given a serious chance on some older form.
A dual-winning novice hurdler, he split My Drogo and Soaring Glory in an Ascot Grade 2 before disappointing the next twice in Graded company, when his breathing might have been an issue.
He was back to something like his best when reappearing after wind surgery at Bangor in November, when chasing home Hunters Call, who went on to finish a close-up third in a Cheltenham Grade 1, with the pair nicely clear of the rest.
His subsequent sixth in an ultra competitive Ascot handicap, the form of which has worked out well, also makes for good reading, and he can now run off a 5lb lower mark with his connections also applying cheek-pieces for the first time.

15.15 Kempton - Up The Straight each-way

Espoir De Guye heads of the market for this 2m4f handicap chase but he's best caught fresh and is far from certain to back up last month's success in a three-runner affair at Warwick.
Both Pistol Whipped, who has been off since pulling up at Ascot in November and looks weighted to the hilt, and Diego Du Charmil, who appeared to find this trip stretching him last time, are also worth opposing at the odds.
Instead we'll take a chance on relative outsider Up The Straight in the hope Richard Rowe's eight-year-old can return to something like his best, having failed to build on his reappearance success at Plumpton in October.
He's faced some stiffish tasks since, including when running down the field in November's Paddy Power Gold Cup and finishing a distant third in an Ascot Grade 2 won by Pic D'Orhy, while he was found out by the drop back to 2m last time out.
He's proved in the past that he can mix it in Listed events, with his second behind Farinet at Sandown last March the standout piece of form, and the handicapper has given him a right chance by dropping him to a mark 10lb lower than his last winning one.
The booking of the in-form Tom Cannon clinches the bet at value odds.

15.35 Uttoxeter - Screaming Colours / Gwencily Berbas each-way

Last year's winner Time To Get Up was beaten a long way when last of the three finishers at Haydock last time, albeit that was an improvement on his previous start at Aintree, and connections are now fitting cheek-pieces for the first time.
Off just a 4lb higher mark than 12 months ago, he must have a favourite's chance and six of 17 rivals are racing from out of the handicap, but preference at bigger odds is for last year's fourth Screaming Colours.
Now an 11-year-old, he's had just one start since and that was at Cork back in October (3m4f) when he found only the 148-rated Braeside too good, with the pair well clear, but this will have been his target all season and he's unlikely to fail through lack of fitness.
While his wins have been on soft / heavy, last year's run on good to soft showed he's not ground dependant and all he does is stay.
It's not hard to imagine him creeping around under a quiet ride under his amateur rider, who claims a useful 3lb, and then staying on grittily to snatch the spoils late on. He's surely an each-way bet to nothing.
Plenty of others were considered including fellow Irish raider Hewick, who would have preferred better ground than he's going to get here, and the 1-2 from 2020, Truckers Lodge and Captain Drake.
David Pipe has an excellent record in the race, winning it in four consecutive years (2011-14), and his Gwencily Berbas could outrun his current odds, for all he's 5lb wrong at the weights.
He's another dour stayer who over an extended 3m6f at Exeter earlier in the season and ran a respectable fifth in Newcastle's Rehearsal Chase on his most recent start, when he raced quite wide and made a mistake late on when just creeping into contention.
Tom Scudamore takes over from a conditional this afternoon - he's riding at his minimum weight - and the stable had a welcome second in Tuesday's Ultima Handicap at the Cheltenham Festival.
