13.31 Wolverhampton - Zarzyni

Top weight Exalted Angel sets the standard in this class 2 6f handicap on his recent fourth in a 5f Listed contest at Lingfield, with today's extra furlong in his favour.
But preference is for David Barron's Zarzyni who is running as well as ever and would have gone close over 5f at Southwell last time but for getting caught behind the two weakening leaders as the winner made his move, costing him the length he was beaten.
This longer trip suits him better, as he showed when again finishing runner-up at the same track in January and winning at Redcar last July, and he has a decent berth in stall five.
What really clinches the bet, though, is the booking of Jamie Spencer, who is 19-46 (41%) on the stable runners with all his rides yielding a £22.16 level-stakes profit.

13.50 Sandown - Kingofthewest (each-way)

With some rain forecast for Friday conditions could be quite testing for the EBF Final, a 2m4f handicap contest for novices which will see 17 go to post.
A strong stayer over the trip is required then and while there are several candidates, none make more appeal at the odds than David Pipe's Kingofthewest, who is looking well bought at £66,000 having won two of his three starts over hurdles.
His only defeat came over 2m at Chepstow two starts back under the penalty he picked up for winning on his debut at Taunton (2m3f), which still has to rate as a solid effort behind all-the-way winner Current Mood, who runs in the Imperial Cup later on the card.
He didn't have a hard hard race by any means when beating a stablemate at Exeter 15 days ago, and is clearly well regarded at home judging by his three Cheltenham Festival entries, including the Albert Bartlett, which suggests his connections think he stays at least this far.
With his regular pilot Fergus Gilliard claiming 3lb off his back for good measure, he should be thereabouts at the finish and is a big enough price for an each-way bet.

14.05 Wolverhampton - Notre Belle Bette

It's easy to see why La Tihaty is favourite for this Lincoln Trial given he's now 4-5 on the all-weather, shaping like a potential Pattern-class performer, and arrives here having won the same Kempton handicap taken en route by last year's winner Born To Be Alive.
The worry with him, though, is his draw in stall 12, which is the widest of all, and his apprentice rider's lack of experience and winless drought stretching back 165 days.
He has to be taken on at skinny odds and the well handicapped Notre Belle Bete should give us a good run for our money, for all he too has a wider draw than ideal.
Having shown useful form when in the frame on six occasions in Ireland, including when a nearest-at-the-finish fourth in a 2000 Guineas Trial won by Poetic Flare, he had been gelded prior to making his British / stable debut for Andrew Balding at Lingfield last month.

Sent off at odds of 1/10 on that occasion for as uncompetitive a novice you can get, he merely had to be kept up to his work to get the job done, having travelled strongly throughout, and that will have teed him up nicely for this much tougher assignment.

Given he was rated in the 100s in Ireland, there has to be plenty of leeway in his current mark of 87 and this extended mile trip promises to suit him well. The stable form (4-13 in the last fortnight) clinches the bet.

14.25 Sandown - Onefortheroad / Mr Grey Sky each-way

Sandown's feature, the 2m Imperial Cup handicap Hurdle, has attracted a big field of 22 and they are headed by Nicky Henderson's novice Balco Coastal; Planet Sport Bet's 100/30 favourite at the time of writing.
His claims are obvious after a couple of easy 2m novice wins this season followed by a second place finish in a messily-run 2m4f Grade 2 at Cheltenham, where he was hampered by the winner late on and didn't quite last home over the longer trip.

An opening mark of 134 seems fair enough and a fast-run 2m should suit him, but his stable has been unusually quiet of late (0-17 in the last fortnight) and his current odds don't really excite given the strength of the opposition.

Onefortheroad is around double the price of the favourite and he's definitely my idea of the winner having improved no end since getting off the mark over hurdles at Huntingdon last March, winning four more times and most recently finishing runner-up in a red-hot Ascot handicap in December.
The form of that race looks very strong, with the winner Tritonic going on to finish fourth in a Grade 1, while behind him were the likes of Metier, a subsequent Lingfield winner, Greatwood Hurdle winner West Cork and Goshen, who has since defended his Kingwell Hurdle crown.

A minor setback prevented him from running in the Betfair Hurdle, but this looks an ideal alternative and given he's won over further and started off in points, he's going to be doing his best work late on.

Indeed, his trainer Neil King believes he is better when able to come from behind, as opposed to making all, which he's done in much smaller fields.
He wouldn't want the ground too soft and there's a little rain forecast in the run-up, but good to soft is fine for him.
At double-figure odds, Kim Bailey's Mr Grey Sky is one for each-way backers as he's another strong stayer at the trip, as he showed when making all at Ludlow last time with a couple of previous winners in behind, and hurdling fluently in the process.
Lightly-raced for an eight-year-old, he's capable of further progress and he starts life in handicaps off what looks a very fair mark of 126.

14.40 Wolverhampton - Misty Grey

Andrew Balding's Happy Power is the one genuine Group performer in the field for this 7f Listed contest - he's won at Group 2 level and is clear best on official ratings - but his very best form is on soft turf and he's yet to race on an all-weather surface.
He won't be far away if taking to it but there are no such concerns over Misty Grey, who is unbeaten in four handicap starts at this track and ran an admirable race in defeat when attempting to give the highly progressive La Tihaty 11lb in a 1m handicap at Kempton on his most recent outing.
That was a nigh on impossible task yet Tom Dascombe's five-year-old only gave best in the final half-furlong, having travelled strongly up to that point, and the drop back to what is probably optimum trip at a track he clearly loves makes him hard to resist.

15.00 Sandown - Flirtatious Girl (each-way)

Forecast favourite Mullenbeg has looked smart in winning both her bumpers, although there has to be a question mark over the form of her latest success at Cheltenham in January, with the front two in the market both flopping.

She might have won anyway and it's worth noting she's still in next week's Champion Bumper (more likely to wait for Aintree), but the Cheltenham fourth Flirtatious Girl is entitled to finish a lot closer this afternoon with that run under her belt and a 4lb pull in the weights

Kim Bailey's six-year-old mare won a well contested bumper here last March and had been off the track for 322 days when reappearing at Prestbury Park, where she did herself no favours by hanging right from halfway.
At a double-figure price at the time of writing, she rates decent each-way value against the favourite.

15.35 Sandown - Frenchy Du Large

This tight-looking 2m4f handicap chase features four last time-out winners, the best of whom may be Paul Nicholls' Danny Kirwan, who came good at the third time of asking over fences at Wincanton in January despite a few indifferent leaps.
That has to be a concern around this track, which provides a unique jumping test thanks to the seven fences in the back straight - the last three coming in quick succession - and it's not hard to imagine Frenchy Du Large getting into a good rhythm at the head of affairs.
Venetia Williams' seven-year-old proved no match for Movethechains when attempting to land a hat-trick over 3m at Lingfield last month, but his sound jumping was again in evidence and he faced a tough task in conceding 16lb to the rapidly improving winner.
Previously at Chepstow and over a similar trip to today's, he won with more in hand than his length winning margin would suggest having got a little bored in front with no fences to aim at in the home straight after they were omitted.
Today's contest will play far more to his strengths and given he clearly stays a bit further, I'd expect Charlie Deutsch to give him a positive ride from the front.
